My Ford Aerostar Radiator Story

For a few years I had a problem with my Ford Aerostar overheating - especially in the summer.  After about 5-10 minutes of leaving the driveway, the temp. gauge would start moving to the right to about 3/4 point.  It would come back down to normal, then go back up again.  If driving in the mountains, it would get in the red zone, then start to peg.  I would have to pull over and wait for it to cool down and then try again.  Running the A.C. made it worse. Also, when the A.C. was on, it didn't blow ice cold air.  The Aerostar also began to have a rough idle.

I replaced the Aerostar's Top and Bottom radiator hoses, water pump (twice), and thermostat.  None of these fixed the problem.  The radiator did not appear to be leaking (no fluid under van).  I finally pulled the radiator.  I took it to the radiator shop to check it out.  They told me a section of the radiator was clogged and not circulating properly.  They didn't know if replacing it would fix the problem or not.  I bought a new radiator and installed it.  The Ford Aerostar has run almost like new ever since.  The rough idle went away.  Ice cold air returned and the temp. gauge stays between 1/4 and 1/2 steady.
